Artist Biography

Jacqueline Botz is an American soprano from Houston, Texas. She is well known for her captivating voice and honest performance. Jacqueline’s goal as an artist is to impact audiences by creating space for vulnerability and creativity. Through somatic practice, she establishes an emotional and human environment allowing a unique connection between the audience and the artist. She established her love for music through sixteen years of dance. Following a somatic and self-actualized practice, Jacqueline is able to use her knowledge of dance to influence her singing and inform her stage presence.

As a child, Jacqueline always had a performer’s energy. She was active in singing, dancing and creating. Her introduction to dance through her first ballet and tap recital at the age of three got her addicted to performance and being on stage. Her family took a trip to New York City following that performance. This is where she saw her first Broadway production— The Lion King. This experience tied together the idea of performance for Jacqueline. She has been heavily involved in both classical music and musical theater since. Her experiences from dance have helped Jacqueline to establish a stage presence that is intriguing and interesting to watch. Her ability to physically convey emotion in performance helps to inform her singing by connecting to the music by the means of dance. Additionally, her years of singing and dance allows her to train in and absorb the knowledge of Alexander Technique. The ability to somatically approach music while listening to what the physical needs of the performer introduces a unique and honest performance for an audience. 

Since retiring from being a dancer, Jacqueline’s passion for dance is maintained through collaboration and choreography. She choreographed a tribute to Leonard Bernstein called Lenny and the Jets at Chapman University. This production included scenes from West Side Story, Trouble in Tahiti, Candide, and On the Town. Her experience at Chapman encouraged her interest in learning about stage direction and management. Jacqueline has continued her curiosity and talents at the Peabody Institute. Since starting her masters Degree, Jacqueline has gained experience in stage-management and assistant directing for many Peabody Mainstage Opera Productions including Cendrillon by Jules Massenet, Don Giovanni by W.A Mozart and Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Eurydice

Jacqueline made her Peabody Institute debut as Cathleen in Riders to the Sea by Ralph Vaughan Williams. She premiered the role of Florencia Grimaldi in Chapman University’s production of Florencia en el Amazonas by Daniel Catán in 2022. Jacqueline made her international debut at the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria singing Contessa from Le Nozze di Figaro. This summer she will be studying German in Salzburg, Austria and competing in the Mirabell Competition through the Miami Frost School of Music. Jacqueline will continue her studies in Baltimore under the mentorship of Elizabeth Futral.
